Why take a Lyceum class?
All "lyceum" classes are not really just lyceum classes. They are perfectly ordinary A&S classes that anyone can take, except that if the teacher is participating in the Lyceum then anyone who takes the class and who is also participating will gain Lyceum credits. But the class itself remains the same for everyone involved, whether or not they participate in the Lyceum.
By the same Token, a "Lyceum event" would be a perfectly normal A&S event, except that all the courses would be Lyceum courses, which is to say that their teachers are part of the Lyceum. This means that anyone could still come and participate, whenever they are participating in the Lyceum or not, the only difference is Lyceum students would gain credits for taken these courses, and others won't... but they will learn the same thing.
The courses, the teachings, the learning, is exactly the same as any A&S events, the only difference is that Lyceum participants get "credits" for having taken the courses... but that part happens outside of the course itself, and does not impact the course itself or the teaching/learning experience at all. The Lyceum Tigris just lets you earn something extra for taking those courses (or teaching them).
Where is the Lyceum Tigris held?
The Lyceum does not have an actual campus, but we're planning Lyceum events throughout the SCAdian year, either as a Lyceum event (a day of classes) or simply various classes taught at other Regional events.
How does it work?
What's in it for me?
Whatever you put into the experience is what you will take away from the experience. If you find the concept interesting and exciting, then your experience will be interesting and exciting.
Why should I take a Lyceum class?
Participation is voluntary. Lyceum classes are open to all. There is never a fee to take a class (except for whatever site fees apply, as is usual) and nothing is mandatory.
Who is in charge of the Lycuem?
The Regents are made up of several different people in varying roles: The Chancellor, the Registrar, the Provost and five Praefects.
(To which we append the listing of the Administration - Chancellor, Registrar, Provost, Verger, Praefects - with names, contact information and job descriptions)
What is a Chancellor's responsibility?
The Chancellor is like the President - the person who oversees the overall operation of the Lyceum.
What is the Registrar's responsibility?
The Registrar is the person who compiles various data and keeps records on which classes each student has taken.
What is the Provost's responsibility?
The Provost is in charge of public relations.
What is a Verger's responsibility?
The Verger is the person who maintains the Lyceum Tigris's website.
What is a Praefect's responsibility?
-recruit teachers
-deciding appropriateness of a class within a college
-when a teacher proposes a class, will give direction/reinforcement
-monitor quality of class and coursework
-input on final projects
-will hold teacher contact info, list of classes/subjects (classes will be listed on web site without teacher contact info)
-if interested in teaching a class, prospective teachers will contact college Praefect
Why should I be a Lyceum teacher?
It is open to all teachers, and a teacher's subject or curriculum will not be curtailed. If a class subject is particulary sought after (themed event or whatnot), a request might be made through the Lyceum to teach. At this point, tentatively, "I have helium hand" award will be given when a large number of classes are taught.
Docendo discimus
We learn by teaching.
