Shire of Glenn Linn
Glenn Linn Walks for Clean Water!
May 10, 2008
9am - 3pm
Crandall Park, Rt. 9 / Glen Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801
District 7190
Last year, the shire of Glenn Linn and friends helped the Glens Falls Rotary raise $25,000 to provide funds for the Pure Water For the World project in Haiti, where sand filters are provided to thousands of families. This year, funds are being raised for sand filters for Guatemala, wherein 60% of the illnesses treated are from water borne diseases. These filters require no electricity and will supply a family with drinking water for a lifetime. Team Glenn Linn's minimum entrance fee of $100 will purchase a filter for a family in Haiti.
Walkers are needed, so if one desires to participate but not fight, please come with sneakers to walk a lap with a friend through the park in the glory of Spring!
The Water Walk festivities will kick off at 9:00am, with a babpipe ceremony followed by live music throughout the day until the Rotary's closing and award ceremony at 3:00pm.
There are plenty of activites to keep one occupied when not walking a lap with a friend. For the kids, there is a bouncey house, a medieval exploration castle and a playground. For the taller kids, there is a Northern Region practice and an Unbelt practice, as well as the fun and friendship in the warm Spring weather.
A fighter's type food day board will be available: Gatorade, water, beef jerky, bread and cheese, chopped fresh fruit and vegetables and New Way Lunch hot dogs are on the menu!
Also, as this is a demo, anyone wishing to bring an A&S item for display or to demonstrate a particular activity is very welcome as well! The more the merrier!
Thoughts are leaning toward having a SCA fashion show, but only if there are enough volunteers!
Water Walk 2008 is more than just a fund raising event. It will be a day of fun, fighting and entertainment that everyone will enjoy.
