CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
OPEN BEAD AREA -Hot head torches will be set up for people to make beads. Instruction provided. Ask the experts questions. Or request information on specific techniques.
Hammered Brass: Make a design in Brass. It looks good on Uust's Roman Armour.
Egyptian Faience: Make a piece of faience. It will be fired and should be ready to take home by noon Sunday.
Viking wire weaving: Learn the fun, beauty and ease of the ancient, nearly forgotten art of Viking wire weaving. Basic technique of weaving in the round and flat with supplies -handouts and supplies are available.
Finishing your piece: You have done your wire weaving, you have a bead or two, you have a piece you have cast. This class will help put your pieces into a necklace or bracelet so you can show off your bling. Bring pliers and hammer if you have it.
Cloisonne enameling: It's a hands-on workshop in basic cloisonne enameling. The class size is limited to 12 participants, and generally runs 3 hours. Any number of observers are welcome to attend, and extra handout will be available. Participants are encouraged to wear fire safe clothing (i.e. natural fiber or leather clothing, which does not have overly loose or hanging sleeves). Participants will be able to design and create a pendant to take home with them. My rules for children participating in the class are that kids between 12-18 have a parent come talk to me ahead of time, so that they are aware that their kids are in the class and what it entails. Mature children under 12 are welcome, but I ask that a parent be present to help them out, as needed. There is a $5 materials fee for the class. There is no charge for handouts. I supply all the materials, but extra pairs of jewelry pliers always come in handy.
Jewelry techniques: This will be a section where people can come and learn about using a jeweler's saw, soldering, shaping and forming metal.
Jagi's Class, or "So you need some tent pegs." Basic iron working techniques, building your fire, planning your work, and how to get burn holes in your clothing.
Divine punishment, or "Learning to forge weld." A round table where smiths and other sufferers will discuss learning to forge weld and how the gods punish their hubris for making the attempt.
Introduction to pewter casting: First course in pewter casting what is a mold. How it works, start carving your own mold.
Advanced mold making for pewter casting: A look at other items that can serve as molds for pewter. Will also look at 3 part soapstone molds and indexed molds.
