SHIRE PENNSIC PITY PARTY (2014)
Once again it is time for the Shire of Glenn Linn to host its annual Pennsic Pity Party. As always this will be a pot luck gathering and once again it will be at Haviland Cove Beach in Glens Falls. Start time is 11:30am and will end somewhere around closing time of the beach.
Please feel free to join us for a day of fun and relaxation. Also feel free to bring an A&S project to work on since there will not be any A&S session that evening. Fighters there may be some room to practice as well if you are up for it.
Also please let us know on here or via email what you are bringing for a dish to pass so we can try to keep from having 10 of the same food.

SHIRE PENNSIC PITY PARTY (2013)
My proposition to you the members of Glenn Linn that would like to participate in a "pity party" of sorts is this:
Location:
Haviland Cove Park
Bush Street
Glens Falls, NY 12801
Time: Gates open at 11am and close at 7pm so somewhere in there. if someone can be there at gate opening to get a couple of picnic tables in the shade and we bring our own ez-ups or a day shade of some kind it would be great like before
Date: Sunday August 4th (a lot of us have plans on the 3rd and Saturdays are usually booked and packed with lots of people so Sunday should be better. Not to mention we could do an outdoor A&S at that time)
Food: I say Pot luck, bring a dish to pass. Please list what you can bring below so we all can see that way there isn't a lot of one thing.
(Some one should bring charcoal for the grill if we want burgers, chicken or hotdogs. And anyone could volunteer to bring any of those items as well.)
Fighters want to armor up? feel free.
You want to Swim? there is the river.
Hand crafty arts and Sciences can be done (I don't believe there is power so it's got to be by hand)
Bardic talents encouraged, share a story, sing a song, play an instrument, juggling, whatever your passion is... aside from spitting fire or lit poi dancing... I am sure there will be something for everyone and I think we may draw some attention and get people asking about stuff ;)
These were my foods for your thoughts so lets discuss this and go from there.
Watching the weather, we may need a rain date or indoor location if possible, Any Suggestions?

These beans will be placed by each voter into a sealed cup that is part of each entrant's display. These beans will be tallied at the end of the voting period for each entrant. The Champion will be announced by 4:00pm.
|
- Nearly everything and anything or everything and anything that we do in the SCA falls within the scope of an arts and science entry for this championship!
- Please enter as many items as you desire. All entries by one person will be considered one display and will be judged as one.
- All ages are welcome to enter!
- Unfinished items are allowed!!
- Documentation is not necessary.
- If you have a performance or demonstration type art, please 'display' it during the "Ask the Artisan" hour. Each entrant may sit with their display for questions and answers during the designated hour from noon to 1:00pm.
- Entries are always welcome throughout the day!* But please be aware you might miss out on some votes if you enter too late in the day.
|
The fair shire of Glenn Linn will be holding a Glenn Linn Arts & Science Championship alongside the Five Shire A&S Champ. A different color bean will be used for the Glenn Linn voting, following the same format and rules as the Five Shire A&S Champ procedure. These beans will be tallied separately from the beans used for the Five Shire A&S Championship.
An early FEAST at 5:30pm will be provided for a separate fee. See below. Feast menu: Roast pork, roast chicken, spring salad, hossenfeffer soup and veggie bisque soup, spinach with bacon, honeyed carrots, roasted fall roots, fresh bread mini loafs with flavored butters, cheeses, fresh fruit and veggies, baked desserts.
Please consider bringing an item towards the POT LUCK DAY BOARD held in the feast hall to compliment the two warm soups and some simple fighter's fare. *Period fare is not required.* Thank you in advance for bringing a dish to share!
This event is two overnights: Friday to Sunday for late night archery and forging activity. You may bring your own tent to pitch on the grassy, green areas, OR reserve a platform canvas tent with four cots and mattresses, OR reserve a mattress and floor area in one of the buildings.

SHIRE PENNSIC PITY PARTY (2012)
Sunday, August 12, 2012
Good-morrow onto the populace of the Shire of Glenn Linn:
We will be holding the Shire of Glenn Linn Pennic Pity this coming Sunday, August 12, 2012, 2-7pm, at my house: 68 Hudson Street, Warrensburg, NY 12885. Garb is optional, but encouraged. I have also offered to Uust to host our shire's weekly fight practice here. No archery though.
We will be using a brick barbeque and two gas grills, so there'll be plenty of room to cook chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and whatever. I'll provide hot dogs, buns, chicken and barbecue sauce (other special sauces are welcome, indeed). Nissa will provide one of the grills, the hamburgers and buns, three folding tables, and several folding chairs. We also have some chairs on hand, but bring some if you've got some.
Since this will be a pot luck gathering, I'd appreciate everybody bringing some other food and/or drink to share. I haven't worked out the non-alcohol drink scenario yet, but our family is mainly "dry," so BYOB, especially if you have any to share. Also, I'll be setting up Tiki torches for the evening part, so feel free to bring the fixings for s'mores...and marshmallows for toasting..oh, and something to toast them with, like long sticks or extension forks.
- It's a pot luck picnic...please bring a dish to share.
- Garb is NOT required, but is encouraged (for ambiance).
- Bring feast gear (plastic ware/paper plates will be available).
- BYOB (We'll provide Kool-Aid, iced tea, lemonade, ice water, and coolers and ice).
- Folding chairs -- if you've gottem, please bring 'em.
- We don't have a pool, but we do have a large back yard.
- Feel free to bring a musical instrument (we're not holding any official contests, so be prepared to play it) or a simple game to share.
Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. Thank you.

PENNSIC PITY PARTY (2011)
Greetings one and all!
Please come to Haviland Cove in Glens Falls on Sunday, August 7, for a local Pennsic Pity Party, where one and all who cannot attend war can commiserate over food, fighting and the regaling of wars past and of those to come!
The park is open 11am to 7pm and is completely free and wheelchair accessible. There is plenty of room for fighting. There are lots of picnic tables and bbq grills to compliment our pot luck offerings. The Cove also has potable water, flush toilets and showers!
All are welcome. Lord T'mas will also be gone to war, so I am not sure if there will be archery practice on this day. If so, we can begin at 3pm. If not, we can start earlier!
We can coordinate here what time fight practice will start and what time we will begin eating.
Directions:
Take the Northway I87 Exit 18 going towards downtown Glens Falls (turn right off ramp if coming from the south, left off the ramp if coming from the north)
Follwo Main St approx 1mi
Turn right onto Staple Street (there's a bank and gas station on the two corners)
Follow until it ends at a stop sigh.
Take a short left and then a quick right onto Bush St.
Follow all the way down the hill - it ends at the beach! :)
Looking forward to seeing y'all this coming Sunday,
frigga

NORTHERN REGION WAR CAMP XVIII & King's & Queen's Equestrian Champions (2011)
The drums of war have begun to thrum. We are told that the Midrealm and its allies are on the move, their forces maneuvering to attempt to seize the hallowed ground at Pennsic. Every warrior knows in their heart that we must keep what we have taken. We must rise up, in the name of our King and Queen, in the name of our country, a warrior's song upon our lips. We must rise up to defend our land, our people and the glory of our future. It is time, once again, for our Northern brethren to prepare for war.
It is with great honor that the Shire of Glenn Linn calls the entire Eastern Army to join us as we begin to sharpen the great claws of the Eastern Tiger. Heavy List, Fencers, Archers, Siege Engineers, and Thrown Weapons, for adults and children alike. Artisans bring your best work! Archery Schedule
Friday, July 1st
4PM - Later: Range being set up
8:30PM - 10PM or later: This will be a basic version of the daylight tournament to be shot on Saturday. It will consist of a clout shoot against a castle, then against targets at various distances. As we did last year, we will be using glow-sticks taped to the arrows. Not for beginners due to shooting at night, and no shooting of Royal Round. Prizes, if any, have yet to be determined. Recognition of winners will be announced at the archery field at the conclusion of the shoot.
Saturday, July 2nd
9AM - 11AM: Royal Round shooting, novelty shooting, novice lessons and shooting, general practice.
11AM - 1PM: The day tournament: which will consist of a clout shoot against a castle; then a graduated attack of various distances and targets in approach to the castle; then a close-up shoot against "guards" at the castle drawbridge, window slits, and crenalations; then, after the drawbridge is breached, a shoot through the "doorway" at the (hopefully Mid-Realm color green) dragon in the center of the castle. Prizes, if any, have yet to be determined. Recognition of winners will be announced at the archery field at the conclusion of the shoot.
1:30PM - 3PM: "The Golden Fletch" competition to determine the best individual archer at NRWC -- a single elimination sniper-shoot at a traditional 14th century medieval target from increasingly longer distances. The target will be a single-color round disc of 12-inches diameter on a 4-ft. diameter target butt. Qualifications for entry will be by invitation of the NRWC archery marshalls, and will be based on standings from the night shoot and the daylight tournament. I propose that "The Golden Fletch" be presented at Royal Court, if possible. Otherwise, it will be presented at the archery range at the conclusion of the competition.
3PM: Range closed in anticipation of Royal Court!!
Sunday: July 3rd
10AM-3PM: Royal Round shooting, novelty shooting, novice lessons and shooting, general practice.
3PM: Range closed, clean-up begins.
All other shooting will be at the discretion of the archery marshall-in-charge

BLADES & BLARNEY IX (2006)
The Shire of Glenn Linn invites all wielders of sword and needle to Blades and Blarney IX on Saturday, January 14th A.S. XL (2006) for a day of swordplay, needle play and stories.
Fencers, sharpen your rapiers and repartee and join those who wish to admire your skills. The fencing tournament will be run in grand Irish tradition, where recounting deeds of valor are almost as important as
the deeds themselves. So bring your blades and banter; both will be needed in the list! Lists open at 10:30 a.m. for authorizations; tournament starts at 12 noon. NON-MARKING footwear only (white soles preferred), please. There will be info and pointers for new fencers.

Bring your needlework and any class handouts and documentation books you may wish to share in the afternoon free embroidery sewing circle. Please see class descriptions below. Games for young and old will be available, or bring your own. Children's activities will be offered.

ROMP IN THE PARK (Sponsored by Mountain Freehold)
10 a.m. to 7 p.m. or dark (whichever comes first)
In eager anticipation of the green of warmer times overtaking the white of winter earth, the Incipient Shire of Glenn Linn is presenting a picnic revel in Crandall Park, next to the YMCA on Glen Street, Glens Falls. This will be an official event of the East, which you may find listed in the April pikestaff to come.
This is a bring-your-own picnic OR you can take your chances at the boxed lunch auction. Lords and ladies are welcome to prepare extra lunches for auction – be prepared to describe the contents and perhaps you may be moved to share the meal with the winning bidder!
There will be a scavenger hunt and fighting contests. Fighting is scheduled for about noon.

FOOL'S DAY FOLLY (1989)
Our good gentles Freighter Oakenshield and Jeanne die Spinnerin wish to welcome all to a day of frivolous reveling peppered with a little intrigue. Be prepared to slay or die, many times mahaps. Rejuvenation will be made possible by performing feats of skill or silliness. A handout of ground rules will be provided at the door. The site is the Comstock Community Center (travel north on Rt. 4 to Rt. 28 – this is the right turn toward Great meadows Correctional Facility. The Center is on the left). The site is WET. For recipes, call Beth McCallister. Details on this pot luck from Freighter or Jeanne.
Prithee, do our Shire the honor of joining us. There will be amusement galore and good cheer aplenty!
